ArtScience Labs Exec to visit OKC

Executive Director for the ArtScience Labs to visit the Oklahoma ArtScience Prize

Carrie Fitzsimmons, Executive Director for the ArtScience Labs, will be in Oklahoma City on Jan. 12th to visit the Oklahoma ArtScience Prize Lab in Oklahoma City.  Fitzsimmons will be accompanied by Andrea Sachdeva, Director of Evaluation and Curriculum.

The Oklahoma ArtScience Prize (OK ASP) is only the second U.S. site in the international network of labs organized by Harvard professor, Dr. David Edwards. Dr. Edward’s class, The Idea Translation Lab at Harvard, was the source for the original concept of artscience, which engages students in a design process on the cutting edge of science. Current sites include Boston, Oklahoma City, Singapore, Paris, Dublin, Capetown, and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with pilot sites in Korea, Canada, Germany, and Minnesota.

Following a successful pilot year during the 2010-2011 school year, OK ASP launched its first full year in the fall of 2011 with students from 14 different Oklahoma City Public High Schools who were selected from applicants.  Through a juried process, one student team is selected from each ASP site to attend a weeklong Innovation Workshop at Le Laboratiore in Paris.  The worldwide theme under which the students are working for this school year is Virtual Worlds.
